Beijing, China – China urged the European Union to provide a fair and equitable business environment for Chinese companies operating in European markets. It stressed that cooperation based on mutual respect and shared interests is the best way to achieve balanced economic growth for both sides.
The call came in official statements from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, in which Beijing expressed concern over recent European measures targeting some Chinese companies operating in the automotive, energy, and technology sectors. It asserted that these measures hinder free trade and threaten the global investment climate.
The ministry added that China does not oppose competition, but strongly rejects any discrimination or disguised restrictions under the guise of “protecting the European market.” It called on Brussels to adhere to the principles of the World Trade Organization and ensure a fair and transparent business environment.
Beijing emphasized that Chinese companies have made significant contributions to the European economy by creating jobs and fostering industrial innovation. It stressed that relations between China and the European Union should be based on cooperation, not confrontation, and on opportunities, not restrictions.
The Chinese message concludes with a firm tone: “Those who put up barriers to partnership today may find themselves tomorrow trapped in an economic isolation of their own making.”
