Call to maintain open markets

Chiang noted that China hopes the EU will commit to keeping trade and investment markets open, while ensuring fair competition and adhering to World Trade Organization rules.

He also stressed the need to avoid politicizing economic and trade issues or overly broadening the concept of security, as this would negatively impact bilateral cooperation and international stability.

Enhancing mutual trust and resolving disputes

The Chinese premier expressed his hope that the two sides would strengthen mutual trust and engage sincerely, focusing on finding common ground and overcoming existing differences.

He referred to the 25th China-EU summit, which he co-chaired with Portuguese Prime Minister Costa, saying the summit achieved positive results. He affirmed China’s willingness to work with the EU to implement the consensus reached and enhance solidarity and coordination between the two sides.

For her part, Ursula von der Leyen stressed that enhancing dialogue and understanding between China and the European Union is of great importance to global development.

She added that the European Union stands ready to implement the outcomes reached during the China-EU leaders’ meeting, resolve differences through dialogue and consultation, and achieve new cooperation outcomes in the areas of trade, investment, environmental protection, and development assistance.
