Brussels, Belgium – Natural gas prices in Europe saw a notable rise of over 5% during Monday’s trading, driven by mounting concerns regarding the security of global and domestic energy supplies. According to market data, the benchmark European natural gas contract (TTF) for next-month delivery on the Amsterdam exchange climbed to €83.75 ($97.13) per megawatt-hour. This marks the highest price level for European contracts since late 2022, reflecting the tension currently dominating the markets.
This sharp rise comes amidst growing concern among investors and analysts regarding persistent disruptions to international energy supplies. Concurrently, European nations are facing mounting pressure to replenish national gas reserves—which have seen a marked decline—ahead of the upcoming winter. It is worth noting that gas prices in Europe have experienced successive surges, tripling since the beginning of the year, as stakeholders warily monitor geopolitical developments and their direct impact on the energy sector.
