Brasilia, Brazil – Apple is facing a new wave of questions and regulatory pressure in Brazil after authorities demanded clarification on the availability of online gambling apps on the App Store to minors.

This comes amid growing concerns about the impact of these apps on children and teenagers.

The inquiries focus on the procedures the company uses to verify users’ ages.

They also focus on the effectiveness of the monitoring systems that prevent minors

from downloading or using apps related to gambling and games involving financial stakes.

Ensuring Apple compliance with child protection laws

This move comes at a time when Brazil is experiencing a significant expansion in its digital betting market.

It also coincides with regulators tightening their oversight of online platforms

to ensure compliance with laws protecting children and limiting their access to inappropriate content.

Authorities have asked Apple to clarify its app rating and review processes

before apps are published on the App Store.

They have also requested information on how the company verifies

that app developers adhere to regulations governing the offering of betting services.

Imposing censorship on applications and platforms

Information security and consumer protection experts believe that relying solely

on user data may not be enough to prevent minors from accessing these types of applications.

Therefore, they have called for the development of more rigorous verification methods,

along with enhanced parental control tools.

This issue reflects a growing global trend toward stricter regulation of app stores and digital platforms.

This comes amidst escalating concerns about children and teenagers

accessing services that may pose financial or psychological risks.

This is occurring against the backdrop of the continued expansion of

the digital economy and smartphone applications.
