Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The fifth round of the second edition of the Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship concluded today, Sunday, in the “no suit” competition. Held at Al Nasr Club in Dubai, the event drew a large crowd. It featured an enthusiastic audience, with elite players competing in the under-18, adult, and master categories.

The intense fights on the second day of the tournament reflected high technical standards. This highlighted the significant development of jiu-jitsu in the country and its leading position globally. This was especially evident with the participation of experienced players who put on dazzling performances. Their efforts raised the level of competition and challenge.

Team ranking

At the conclusion of the competition, Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club topped the overall standings, with M.O.D. Academy coming in second. Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club took third place.

The second day’s events were attended by His Excellency Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, and Abdul Razzaq Al Hashemi, Chairman of Al Nasr Sports Games Company. Also present were Mohammed Mubarak, Director of Aviation Security and Hazardous Materials; Naif Ibrahim, Senior Director of Operations and Events at the Department of Economy and Tourism; Hashim Al Quraishi, Director of Contracts and Procurement at Dubai Municipality; and Dalal Ibrahim Al Raisi, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Customer Experience at Q Mobility.

His Excellency Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice President of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said: “The Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Championship embodies the pivotal role of sports in promoting social cohesion. It instills noble values across generations. It is a platform that brings together players and their families. The event creates an atmosphere that reflects the spirit and values of jiu-jitsu. Moreover, it provides the community with the opportunity to learn about its physical and mental benefits.”

Public attendance

He added: “We are pleased to see such a large crowd turnout amid the unique atmosphere of the tournament. This confirms the growing popularity of jiu-jitsu in the country.”

Abdul Razzaq Al Hashemi, Chairman of Al Nasr Sports Games Company, said: “We are pleased to host this important championship at Al Nasr Club. We are well aware of the importance of jiu-jitsu and the significant benefits it offers to practitioners. These benefits come not only physically, but also in building character and enhancing confidence and discipline.

During this round, we witnessed impressive performances from various clubs. This reflects the great efforts made by the country’s sports system to consolidate the UAE’s position on the global jiu-jitsu map. We are proud that Al Nasr Club is part of this distinguished journey. It serves as a meeting place that brings together promising talents with elite champions.”

Khaled Walid Zawiya, a player from Al Jazira Club who won the gold medal in the Under 18 category (66 kg), said: “I have always been keen to participate in the Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship since its inception. The intensive participation from various clubs and players gives me the opportunity to improve my skills and develop my style.

The competition was very strong, and I was able to excel in all the fights and win the gold medal. It also added important ranking points to the club’s tally.”
