Tel AVIV, Israel – US President Donald Trump said Monday that a “long nightmare” has finally ended for Israelis and Palestinians alike.
This came after the agreement on the first phase of the ceasefire in Gaza and the agreement to exchange hostages and detainees between Israel and Hamas.
“The forces of chaos that have exhausted the region have been completely defeated,” Trump said in a speech to the Knesset. “Together, we have shown that peace is not just a hope. It is a reality.”
He added: “After many years of continuous war and endless danger, today the sky is calm. The cannons are silent, the sirens are stopped. And the sun rises on a holy land that is finally enjoying peace. This is the historic dawn of the new Middle East”.
Amazing victory
He continued: “It is an amazing victory for Israel and the world. For all these countries to come together as partners in peace is remarkable.” Moreover, generations from now, this day will be remembered as the moment when everything began to change.”
He continued: “Israel has achieved everything that can be achieved by force of arms. It is time to translate these victories against terrorists on the battlefield into the grand prize of peace and prosperity. This is aimed at the entire Middle East region”.
Trump pointed out that “from Gaza to Iran, bitter hatred has resulted in nothing but misery, suffering and failure. Even for Iran, whose regime has caused so much death in the Middle East, the hand of friendship and cooperation is always extended.”
He continued: “After two years of darkness, injustice and captivity, twenty hostages return to their families. They can now rest after a long time. They went through a period of great suffering. This is not only the end of the war. It is the end of a period of intimidation.”
He said: “Thanks to our partnership with Benjamin Netanyahu, we were able to achieve this historic achievement. He was not an easy person to deal with, and this is what makes him a wonderful person.”
