Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Health authorities in the United States have warned of the danger of some kitchen utensils circulating in the markets.
This is after recent tests showed that it may cause toxic lead to leak into food.
This increases the risk of cancer, autism spectrum disorder, and other serious diseases.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that tests revealed that 4 products made of aluminum in India contained unsafe levels of lead.
These products include 3 flat-bottomed circular bowls and a bowl designated for boiling milk.
These products carry the following brands: Tiger White, Silver Horse, and JK Vallabadas.
These tools were found in stores in New York and Illinois. However, their distribution range in other states is not yet known.
The administration called on consumers to inspect their kitchens and dispose of any similar products.
She also appealed to merchants and distributors to contact her to verify the safety of their goods.
The authority explained that some kitchen utensils, especially those made of aluminum, copper, or recycled materials such as car parts, may contain lead. This lead can seep into food during cooking.
She stressed that even low levels of this substance pose a significant risk. Additionally, there is no safe limit to exposure to it.
Especially in children and fetuses who are more susceptible to poisoning.
Research suggests that prolonged exposure to lead is associated with poor learning ability, autism spectrum disorder, and nervous system problems.
In addition to kidney and heart diseases and an increased risk of cancer.
Symptoms of poisoning range from difficulty concentrating and decreased intelligence at low levels. At high levels, symptoms include abdominal pain, vomiting, convulsions, and fainting.
It is noteworthy that the US Food and Drug Administration has banned the use of lead in all products that come into contact with food.
