New York, United States – On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand met with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski. They discussed current geopolitical challenges. Most notably, the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The two sides affirmed their countries’ commitment to continuing support for Kyiv in the areas of defense and reconstruction. They emphasized that Western unity against Russia is a strategic priority for both Ottawa and Warsaw.

The meeting also addressed ways to deepen economic relations between Canada and Poland. Focus was placed on enhancing cooperation in the defense, energy, aviation, and critical minerals sectors. These are vital areas for the future of the partnership between the two countries.

In the same context, the Canadian minister congratulated her Polish counterpart on his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister. She expressed Canada’s full solidarity with Poland in confronting what she described as “Russian violations” of NATO airspace through the use of drones.
