Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty held a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, during which they discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and Sudan. At the outset of the call, Guterres praised President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s role in supporting security and stability in the region. He also commended Egypt’s efforts to promote international peace and security in light of current regional challenges.

The two sides discussed developments in the Gaza Strip, with the Foreign Minister emphasizing the importance of implementing the requirements of the second phase of the proposed plan. This includes deploying the international stabilization force, supporting the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, opening the Rafah crossing in both directions, and the Israeli withdrawal from the Strip. He also stressed the need to launch an early recovery and reconstruction process based on the needs of the population. The call also addressed developments in the crisis in Sudan. Abdel-Aati emphasized the necessity of reaching a humanitarian truce and establishing safe corridors as a prelude to a comprehensive ceasefire. He also stressed the importance of launching a comprehensive, Sudanese-owned political process that respects Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
