Houston, USA – Germany started their 2026 World Cup campaign in the best possible way, after achieving a resounding 7-1 victory over Curaçao in their opening group stage match on Sunday evening.
The German national team entered the match with great strength, imposing its control from the first minutes, translating its superiority into an early goal signed by Felix Nmecha in the sixth minute, after a powerful shot from inside the penalty area.
Despite the difficult start, the Curaçao national team, participating for the first time in its history in the World Cup, managed to equalize in the 21st minute through Livano Comenincia with a wonderful shot from outside the penalty area, which ignited the enthusiasm of its fans.
But the German response was swift and decisive, with Nico Schlotterbeck restoring his country’s lead in the 38th minute with a well-placed header, before Kai Havertz added a third goal from a penalty kick at the end of the first half.
As the second half began, the German team continued their offensive pressure, with Jamal Musiala scoring the fourth goal just two minutes after the break, putting his team on the verge of a resounding victory.
Curaçao’s struggles against the German attacking force continued, with Nathaniel Brown adding the fifth goal in the 68th minute, before substitute Denis Ondav scored the sixth goal ten minutes later.
Minutes before the final whistle, Havertz returned to score his second personal goal and the seventh for the German national team, after he broke through on goal and skillfully placed the ball over the goalkeeper.
With this resounding victory, the German national team earned its first three points in the tournament, topping the standings of Group E, while the Curaçao national team suffered a crushing defeat in its first appearance in the history of the World Cup.
