Glasgow, Scotland – Japan secured a valuable 1-0 victory over Scotland in a friendly match played on Saturday evening, as both teams prepare for the 2026 World Cup.
The match took place at Hampden Park Stadium in Glasgow and was largely even, with the home side having a slight advantage in possession, but without any real danger to the goal.
The score remained 0-0 until the final minutes, before Junya Ito managed to snatch the winning goal for Japan in the 82nd minute, after receiving the ball inside the penalty area and skillfully shooting it into the far corner, giving the “Samurai” an important victory.
The United States of America will host the 2026 World Cup finals, with the participation of Canada and Mexico, in a historic edition that will see the participation of 48 teams for the first time, during the period from June 11 to July 19.
Scotland is in Group C alongside Morocco, Brazil and Haiti, while Japan is in Group F with the Netherlands and Tunisia, in addition to one of the qualifiers from the play-offs.
