New Orleans, USA – Belgium sent a strong message to its rivals ahead of the 2026 World Cup, securing a resounding 5-2 victory over hosts the United States in a friendly match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The United States started the match stronger, with Weston McKennie opening the scoring in the 39th minute, capitalizing on a corner kick taken by Anthony Robinson. However, Belgium responded quickly through defender Zino Debast, who equalized with a powerful shot in the 45th minute.
As the second half began, Belgium asserted their dominance. Amadou Onana scored the second goal in the 53rd minute, before Charles De Ketelaere extended their lead with a third goal from the penalty spot in the 59th minute, following a VAR review.
Substitute Dodi Lukebakio continued his brilliance, scoring the fourth goal in the 68th minute. He then returned to score the fifth goal and his second personally in the 82nd minute, confirming the superiority of the “Red Devils”.
Before the final whistle, Patrick Agyemang managed to reduce the deficit for the American team in the 87th minute, taking advantage of a defensive error.
