Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Saudi media reports have settled the debate surrounding the future of French coach Hervé Renard, manager of the Saudi national team, following the Green Falcons’ heavy 4-0 defeat to Egypt in a friendly match as part of their preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
The Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported that Renard’s future is still under evaluation. A more definitive decision is expected after the upcoming friendly match against Serbia, scheduled for next Tuesday, as part of the World Cup preparations.
The newspaper indicated that all scenarios remain open regarding the French coach’s future, whether he stays or leaves. It added that the option of dismissal seems unlikely at the moment, given the limited time remaining before the start of the World Cup.
The defeat against Egypt raised many questions about the level and performance of the Saudi national team, as well as its tactical identity, before the World Cup, especially given its tough group stage matches against teams like Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde.
Since returning to coach the national team in November 2024, Hervé Renard has led the Green Falcons in 26 matches, achieving 10 wins, 10 losses, and 6 draws. Under his leadership, the team scored 26 goals and conceded 30, reflecting a relatively balanced performance with some defensive lapses.
