Al Ahly’s first football team bid farewell to the African Champions League from the quarter-finals, after losing to Esperance of Tunisia by a score of 3-2, in the match that took place on Saturday evening at Cairo International Stadium.
The first leg had ended with Esperance winning 1-0, so the Tunisian team secured their qualification to the semi-finals with an aggregate score of (4-2).
Al Ahly started the match well, and managed to take an early lead in the 10th minute through Trezeguet, after following up on a ball that rebounded off the defense and putting it into the net.

— beIN SPORTS (@beINSPORTS) March 21, 2026 Esperance responded with several attempts, most notably a shot by Jacques Diarra in the 13th minute, and another attempt by Florian Danho in the 18th minute, but Mostafa Shobeir excelled in saving them.
Al Ahly continued their attempts and almost added a second goal through Zizo in the 20th minute, before the first half ended with Al Ahly leading by one goal to nil.
In the second half, Esperance improved their performance and took control of the game, and managed to equalize in the 68th minute through Florian Danho, who took advantage of a defensive error to shoot a ball into the net.

In the dying moments, Esperance snatched the winning goal through Hamza Jelassi in the 90+4 minute, thus deciding the match in their favor.

It is worth mentioning that Pyramids had also bid farewell to the African Champions League after losing to the Royal Army with a score of (2-1) in the second leg of the quarter-finals, knowing that the first leg ended in a positive draw of one goal for each team.
