Cairo, Egypt – Al Ahly achieved a hard-fought victory over El Gouna with a score of 1-0, in the match that brought them together on Thursday evening, as part of the 18th round of the Egyptian Premier League.
The Cairo International Stadium hosted the match, which saw a strong start from Al-Ahly, as they imposed their control over the course of the game from the first minutes, relying on offensive pressure in search of an early lead goal.
Imam Ashour almost opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, but it went just wide of the post. He then tried his luck again in the 13th minute with a volley, but the El Gouna goalkeeper made the save.
In response, El Gouna created several dangerous chances, most notably in the 22nd minute when Mohamed El Shenawy made a fine save from a powerful header by Reda Salah. Al Ahly’s defense then cleared the ball and prevented a certain goal.
Al Ahly succeeded in translating their dominance into a goal in the 35th minute, after Ashraf Bencharki sent a perfect cross into the penalty area, which was met by Imam Ashour with a wonderful header that nestled in the net, giving his team the advantage.
