Rabat, Morocco – Nigeria secured their place in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Algeria 2-0 in their match on Saturday evening.

The match was held at Marrakech Stadium, as part of the quarter-final round of the continental championship.

The Nigerian team appeared organized from the beginning of the match, and imposed its style during the course of the game, before succeeding in deciding it during the second half by scoring two consecutive goals.

Victor Osimhen opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 47th minute, after receiving a perfect cross from the left side, and heading it powerfully into the Algerian net.

Adams Akor strengthened the “Green Eagles'” lead with the second goal in the 57th minute, after receiving a decisive pass from Osimhen, which led to him going one-on-one with the goalkeeper and shooting a short ball into the net.

The Algerian team tried to get back into the game and reduce the deficit during the remaining minutes, but the attempts were met with strong defensive organization from the Nigerian team, who maintained their lead until the final whistle.

With this result, Nigeria qualifies for the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, setting up a meeting with Morocco, who in turn qualified after defeating Cameroon 2-0.

The semi-final match between Nigeria and Morocco is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 10:00 PM.
