Cairo, Egypt – Moroccan side RS Berkane defeated their Nigerian hosts Rivers United 2-1 in their CAF Champions League match this evening.
Renaissance Berkane met Rivers United at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, as part of the second round of the African Champions League.
Rivers United of Nigeria took the lead in the 37th minute with an own goal by Renaissance Berkane player Mamadou Camara.
The match remained in the Nigerian team’s lead until RS Berkane turned the tables in the final moments, scoring two dramatic goals in the 90+7 and 90+8 minutes.
The win lifted RS Berkane to 6 points, topping the group standings, three points ahead of Pyramids FC, who play Power Dynamos on Saturday in the same round. Rivers United of Nigeria remain without points at the bottom of the group.
Morocco’s RS Berkane and Nigeria’s Reeves United are in Group A of the CAF Champions League, alongside Power Dynamos and Pyramids FC.
In the second round, the match between JS Kabylie of Algeria and Young Africans of Tanzania ended in a goalless draw, in the match that took place at the “Hussein Ait Ahmed” stadium.
The draw lifted Tanzania’s Young Africans to the top of the group with four points, while Algeria’s JS Kabylie remained in third place with one point.
This is the second consecutive match in which JS Kabylie has failed to achieve victory, having lost in the first round against Al Ahly by four goals to one.
