Cairo, Egypt – The Egyptian newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm reported that the 30th Circuit of the Giza Criminal Court, convened at the Shubra El-Kheima Courthouse, will resume on Tuesday the trial of footballer Ramadan Sobhi and three other defendants. This trial concerns charges of forging an official document in the Abu Nomros area.
The session was presided over by Judge Taha Ibrahim Abdel Aziz, with Judges Abdel Salam Suleiman El-Daljawi, Ahmed Mohamed Yousry, and Abdel Hamid Mohamed Salah El-Din as members. These judges are from the Cairo Court of Appeal, and Amer Ali served as secretary.
The 30th Circuit of the Giza Criminal Court, convened at the Shubra El-Kheima Courthouse, resumed its hearing on Tuesday in the case against the player and three others. The charges stem from forgery of official documents at a tourism and hotel institute in Giza, following a previous adjournment.
The court adjourned the case in its previous session at the request of the first defendant’s lawyer. The reason given was the defendant’s insistence on the presence of his original legal counsel. The court also ordered the detention of the player and the other defendants until today’s session, and ordered that he be brought before the court alongside the other detained defendants. An arrest warrant was issued for the fourth defendant in the case.
According to the Egyptian newspaper, the court confronted the defendants, including player Ramadan Sobhi, with the charges included in the case’s indictment. All of them denied the charges against them.
The prosecution had previously decided to release Sobhi on bail of 100,000 Egyptian pounds on charges of forgery. The prosecution summoned the young man accused of forgery to appear before the examination committee in place of the player, in order to confront him with the latter.
The incident dates back to last May. A man was apprehended inside a tourism and hotel institute in the Abu Nimras area while taking an exam on behalf of footballer Ramadan Sobhi. During the investigation, the accused confessed to receiving money from the player in exchange for entering the exam hall and taking the exam for him.
