Spain – FC Barcelona has begun its early moves to ensure a smooth transition in its attack. This comes as the club prepares to bid farewell to its Polish star, Robert Lewandowski (37 years old), whose contract expires at the end of the 2025-2026 season. According to Spanish reports, the Catalan club is focusing on Harry Kane and Serhou Guirassy as its top priorities to succeed the Polish striker.
Lewandowski leaves, freeing up 40 million euros from his salary
Lewandowski is expected to leave as a free agent, saving the club around €40 million in wages. The club’s management, led by sporting director Deco, is keen to avoid repeating past mistakes, such as Lionel Messi’s departure without a clear transition plan.
However, financing such a massive deal would require Barcelona to revert to the “1:1” rule for sports spending in La Liga. This is expected to happen with the arrival of payments from investors in December 2025.
Kane is Flick’s first choice… and Guerrasi is the “balanced option”.
New coach Hansi Flick has shown particular interest in experienced and prolific strikers. He has placed Harry Kane and Serhou Guirassy at the top of his list.
Harry Kane (Bayern Munich): He is considered Flick’s “first choice,” having learned this from their time together at Bayern. Kane is having a phenomenal season, scoring 32 goals in 17 matches, and the club sees him as the natural successor to Lewandowski’s goal-scoring style.
Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund): He is seen as a more balanced option. This is due to his age (29) and reasonable price, especially after joining Dortmund in 2024.
Barcelona’s plan hinges on Lewandowski’s departure first, in order to free up the necessary salary space before commencing negotiations to sign a new striker.
