Cairo, Egypt – The Egyptian junior handball team lost the World Cup title after a thrilling 44-43 defeat to Germany. This loss came in the final match of the inaugural tournament held in Morocco.
Germany dominated the first half against Egypt, ending it with a score of 18-17. However, Egypt turned the tables in the second half. Thanks to the brilliance of their star player, Youssef Amr, they took a 27-23 lead.
Then the German team equalized, ending regular time with a score of 37-37. The two teams resorted to extra periods.
Germany won the first overtime period 41-40. They then continued their momentum and finished the game 44-43, winning the title for the first time in their history.
The tournament in that age category was held for the first time in Morocco from October 24 to November 1.
The Egyptian national handball team began its World Championship campaign with a 35-26 victory over Brazil. This was followed by a 42-22 win against the United States. The Pharaohs then defeated hosts Morocco 32-20. With these three consecutive wins, they achieved a perfect record. They topped Group A with six points.
In the semi-finals, the Egyptian national team eliminated Spain with a score of 31-28. This set up a final match against Germany. They ultimately lost to Germany and won the silver medal.
