Cairo, Egypt – Dibba Club defeated Al Wasl Club 6-5 on penalties after the two teams finished with two goals each in the President’s Cup match.
Dibba met Al Wasl at Dibba Stadium in the Round of 16 of the President’s Cup.
Al Wasl took the lead in the 39th minute through Sergio Pereira. He dribbled past the Dibba goalkeeper and then fired the ball into the net.
While Dibba responded quickly with an equaliser through Muhannad Ali Al Shammari in the 44th minute. This was from a penalty kick that his team was awarded.
In the 49th minute, Dibba player Abdullah Al-Mukhaini received a red card after a strong tackle on an Al-Wasl player.
Al Wasl player Sergio Pereira also received a red card in the 70th minute, after receiving a second yellow card.
The match remained a back-and-forth between the two teams, with neither able to score any new goals. The regular time ended in a 1-1 draw, forcing the two teams to go into extra time to secure qualification.
Al Wasl scored a second goal in the 112th minute through Brian Palacios. However, Dibba responded with an equalizer in the 117th minute through Habib Abdullah. This sent the match to penalty kicks to decide who would advance to the quarter-finals of the UAE President’s Cup.
