After a decade, the expanded Club World Cup has finally seen the light of day. This idea, championed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, has become a reality.
Football history has never witnessed a tournament of this size and diversity, with 32 teams from across the world competing for global leadership.
In this context, the British website “The Athletic” has prepared a comprehensive ranking system for the participating teams. This system is based not only on the quality of each team’s performance on the field, but also on their global presence and financial strength.
The website based its ranking on five criteria:
The Opta rating, which gives each team a rating out of 100 based on its results.
Total spending on transfers over the past five years.
Average attendance at the team’s home matches during the past season.
Total number of followers on its various social media accounts (X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok).
The number of major continental titles the team has won throughout its history (such as the UEFA Champions League and the CAF Champions League).
He explained that he divided the total rating by 5 to arrive at the final rating, emphasizing that the lower the rating, the higher the team’s ranking.
He indicated that he gave greater importance to the Opta rating due to its connection to current performance, while downplaying the importance of continental championships, believing it difficult to fairly compare them between continental confederations of different strengths.
