Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, today. The meeting was attended by senior Egyptian and Russian officials, including Egyptian Foreign Minister and Minister of Immigration Badr Abdel-Aty and General Intelligence Directorate Chief Major General Hassan Rashad. Also present were Alexander Venediktov, Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council, and Georgy Borisenko, the Russian Ambassador to Cairo.
During the meeting, Sisi conveyed his greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin and emphasized the strength of Egyptian-Russian relations. He noted the ongoing development of the partnership between the two countries, while Shoigu reciprocated President Putin’s greetings, praising Russia’s desire to enhance cooperation and political consultation with Egypt on regional and international issues.
The meeting addressed efforts to achieve stability in the Middle East, including the implementation of the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid. Egypt’s support for resolving the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and achieving a comprehensive peace was also discussed. Furthermore, ways to enhance economic and investment cooperation between the two countries were explored, including projects related to the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal and the Dabaa nuclear power plant. Increasing trade volume and strengthening the tourism sector were also discussed.
The meeting concluded with the Russian official affirming Moscow’s appreciation for Egypt’s role in the region, praising “the essential efforts exerted by President Sisi to achieve regional stability.” He emphasized Russia’s commitment to continued coordination with Egypt.
