Washington, DC – Microsoft announced on Sunday the launch of the IMPORTTEXT and IMPORTCSV functions in Excel, designed to speed up and simplify the process of importing data directly from text and CSV files using programmatic formats, eliminating the need for traditional import wizards.
The new functions utilize Dynamic Arrays technology, which allows imported data to be displayed and automatically expand within cells according to the size of the content. They also provide automatic updates when the source file is modified, enhancing table accuracy and reducing the need for manual re-importing.
The IMPORTTEXT function enables users to control separators and encoding types for various text files, while the IMPORTCSV function offers a quick and streamlined way to import standard file formats. Microsoft emphasized that these new tools are not intended to replace Power Query, but rather to provide a lighter and faster solution for everyday tasks, supporting productivity and promoting the use of artificial intelligence in office work.
The functions will be rolled out gradually to Microsoft 365 Insider subscribers as part of the company’s strategy to enhance the analytics and processing tools within Excel, making it easier for businesses and organizations to manage data more flexibly and quickly.
These updates follow a series of technological initiatives launched by Microsoft to promote artificial intelligence and its applications in digital management. These initiatives included a collaboration with Dubai Digital to train government employees in the use of AI, as well as strategic partnerships with ADNOC, Masdar, and XRG to accelerate the deployment of AI solutions in the energy sector and enhance the efficiency of public services in Dubai Municipality through cloud solutions.
This approach reflects Microsoft’s commitment to developing its office tools to meet the needs of users in modern work environments. It also aims to achieve integration between data and artificial intelligence, contributing to streamlining daily operations, improving information quality, and enabling faster decision-making.
