Sydney, Australia – A new Australian law has come into effect banning children and teenagers under the age of 16 from using social media. This measure aims to reduce internet addiction and the risks of cyberbullying and harassment.
The law requires platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Snapchat to shut down accounts that violate its provisions. Companies that fail to comply face fines of up to €28 million.
The Australian Prime Minister confirmed that the decision was made to protect children from harmful content and digital fraud. Parents welcomed the move, while some teenagers objected.
Other countries are expected to follow Australia’s lead in the coming period.
