Ankara, Turkey – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that Iranian attacks on the Gulf region are “unacceptable and threaten maritime security and regional stability.” He also asserted that the US strikes against targets inside Iran “constitute a clear violation of the sovereignty of an independent state.”
In official remarks, Erdoğan added that Ankara rejects any escalatory steps that could ignite the region. He called on all parties to “exercise restraint and return to the language of diplomacy instead of the logic of weapons.”
The Turkish president emphasized that the security of the Gulf is an integral part of the security of the entire region. He warned that continued attacks would lead to “serious repercussions for the global economy and energy security.”
He affirmed that his country is maintaining contact with various parties to de-escalate the situation. He also indicated that a political solution and direct dialogue are the only way to prevent the situation from spiraling into a wider, disastrous confrontation.
