  • A revised proposal via Islamabad and an escalation of threats
  • Nuclear and financial disputes are hindering a settlement.

Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the Iranians are desperate to sign an agreement to end the full-scale war that has engulfed the region since February 28. In an interview with Fortune magazine published Monday, he stated that the Iranians are “screaming” from the devastating effects of the war. Trump claimed that Tehran “talks publicly about the agreement, and then behind the scenes presents a document that has nothing to do with any agreed-upon terms.” This was a reference to the fluctuating positions and constantly changing demands of Iran.

A revised proposal via Islamabad and an escalation of threats

Trump’s remarks come as Iran announced its response to a new US proposal aimed at ending the conflict. It also confirmed that diplomatic contacts are ongoing through Pakistan.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei explained at his press conference: “We have conveyed our concerns and observations to the American side, and communication is continuing through the Pakistani mediator.”

In the same context, a Pakistani source revealed to Reuters that Islamabad submitted a revised Iranian proposal to Washington last night. The source confirmed that both sides are continuing to adjust their conditions, complicating an immediate resolution.

Yesterday, the US president issued very strong warnings to Tehran via his “Truth Social” platform, saying: “Time is running out, and they would better act quickly, otherwise nothing will be left of them.”

Nuclear and financial disputes are hindering a settlement.

In contrast, Iranian media reported a “complete American refusal to make any tangible concessions, and Washington’s insistence on unfair and unacceptable conditions.”

The core disagreements center on Tehran’s categorical rejection of the American demand to transfer its highly enriched uranium stockpiles to the United States. It also categorically rejects limiting nuclear activity to a single operational Iranian facility.

On the financial and economic front, the Iranian side insists on the complete lifting of sanctions and punitive measures on all Iranian funds frozen in foreign banks as a prerequisite for a ceasefire. In contrast, the US administration hints at its conditional agreement to release only 25% of those funds in the first phase, leaving regional peace talks hanging by a thread.
