Cairo, Egypt – Relations between Egypt and Kuwait experienced a temporary escalation following an article by Kuwaiti writer Fouad Al-Hashem that included direct insults against the Egyptian people and attacks on the state, sparking widespread official and public reactions. However, both countries were quick to emphasize the depth of their historical and cultural ties.
The Egyptian Ministry of State for Information condemned the article, describing it as unacceptable professional and ethical conduct. The ministry stressed that the dignity of Egyptians is a red line and that any individual insult does not represent the position of the state or the people. It also praised the Kuwaiti media outlets that condemned the article and affirmed that its content reflected only a personal opinion.
Kuwaiti media figures emphasized that relations between the two countries are stronger than any individual statements. They also affirmed their rejection of any attempt to offend or sow discord. They called for strengthening dialogue and joint media cooperation between Egypt and Kuwait.
The Kuwaiti side informed Egypt that the matter had been referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to take appropriate legal action. Egypt, for its part, stressed its commitment to not conflating the offenses of an individual with the positions of entire nations and called for responsibility and accuracy in media work.
The current crisis is related solely to individual statements. Official sources confirm that Egyptian-Kuwaiti relations are historical and strong. Furthermore, legal and ethical procedures are being followed, with a commitment to enhancing cooperation and dialogue between media professionals in both countries.
