Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on the Iranian leadership. He accused Tehran of waging a systematic disinformation campaign using sophisticated technologies. These technologies, he said, are intended to deceive the international community and exaggerate Iran’s military capabilities.
Digital forgery allegations
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump asserted that the Iranian regime is engaged in a widespread dissemination of “fake news and disinformation.” The US president explicitly stated that Tehran is increasingly relying on artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images and videos to showcase a fabricated military arsenal and exercises that do not exist in reality. He described this as a desperate attempt to exaggerate its military strength. Trump wrote, “Iran is desperately trying to project a false image of great power. They are using artificial intelligence to create impressive but totally fake military images. Their goal is intimidation and disseminating misleading propaganda.” He added that these actions reflect internal weakness and are an attempt to mask the country’s real technological and military shortcomings.
Context of technological tension
Trump’s remarks come at a sensitive time, as the region witnesses military and diplomatic escalation. Observers believe that the use of deepfakes and artificial intelligence in conflicts has become a new weapon in information warfare. The US president also warned against being deceived by these images, emphasizing that US intelligence agencies are capable of detecting these fabrications and distinguishing between reality and digital fiction. Trump concluded his post by asserting that the “maximum pressure” policy must also include pursuing Iranian digital disinformation. He also stressed the need to ensure that allies and global markets are not affected by this misinformation, which aims to destabilize the region through a “phantom force.”
