Brussels, Belgium – A document from the European Union’s External Action Service, seen by Reuters, shows that the bloc is considering providing support to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. This comes as part of diplomatic efforts related to the post-war phase in the Gaza Strip.
Contact the transitional governing structures
The document stated that the European Union is currently in contact with the newly established transitional governing bodies in Gaza. It also indicated that Brussels is exploring potential support mechanisms to bolster administrative and security stability.
It added that the foreign ministers of the member states will discuss developments in Gaza during a meeting in Brussels on February 23. This comes amidst European efforts to engage in arrangements for the next phase.
A position from the Peace Council
The document explained that most European governments chose not to join the US-led “Peace Council.” However, it emphasized that this decision does not affect the European Union’s commitment to the success of the peace plan.
The European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šujča, is scheduled to participate in the Council meeting in Washington as an observer. The EU Police Support Mission will contribute to any potential international stabilization force by training and equipping the Palestinian civilian police and criminal justice institutions.
This European move reflects a trend toward strengthening its diplomatic and institutional presence in the Gaza file. It comes in parallel with ongoing international coordination regarding security and administrative arrangements in the Gaza Strip for the next phase.
