Yerevan, Armenia – US Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed that the authority to make crucial decisions regarding the Iranian nuclear issue and to draw red lines related to it rests directly and exclusively with President Donald Trump.
Statements from the heart of Armenia
Vance’s remarks came during a joint press conference with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Yerevan. The vice president explained that US policy toward Tehran is being managed from the Oval Office. He also indicated that President Trump will determine the final direction of the negotiations.
The nuclear file and internal repression
Vance noted that the ongoing talks between Washington and Tehran were not limited to the nuclear issue but also included other sensitive matters. He stated that the issue of the popular protests in Iran and the violent repression they have faced was a key part of the discussions between representatives of the two countries. He added that the final decision on how to handle these issues and what Washington’s stance will be will be made by Donald Trump himself.
Uncertainty surrounds the “desired outcome”.
In a notable comment about the nature of the talks, the US Vice President said: “Everyone is aware of the negotiations through what is published in the media and the public, but only the President of the United States knows for sure what outcome he intends to achieve from these talks.”
Ongoing regional tour
These remarks come as the US Vice President is on a regional tour of the Caucasus. He is scheduled to leave Yerevan on Wednesday for Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, where he will continue discussing strategic and security issues in the region.
