Tehran, Iran – In a seismic response to the European Union’s recent decision, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf announced on Sunday that Tehran has officially begun treating European militaries as “terrorist groups.” He also warned that the European Union alone will bear the consequences of this action.
Activating the “countermeasures” law
During a parliamentary session, Qalibaf explained that this designation was based on Article 7 of the “Countermeasures” law. This law was activated in response to the inclusion of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the European Union’s list of terrorist organizations. Qalibaf stated sharply, “The Europeans have harmed themselves by attempting to target the IRGC, which has historically been the bulwark and the greatest obstacle to the spread of terrorism in the heart of Europe.”
Subservience to “Washington and Tel Aviv”
The Iranian parliament speaker described the European Union’s move as “irresponsible,” asserting that it was carried out “under direct orders” from the US president and Israel. Qalibaf also warned that this compliance would hasten Europe’s “marginalization in the future world order,” as he put it.
Context of the crisis
This diplomatic explosion comes just days after the European Union designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a terrorist organization. Tehran has deemed this move a crossing of red lines, opening the door to a complex legal and military confrontation between Iran and European capitals.
