Ankara, Turkey – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian, reiterated his country’s rejection of any foreign interference in Iranian affairs.
He stressed that peace and stability in Iran are a regional priority.
These serve the interests of all neighboring countries, according to a statement issued by the Turkish Presidency.
The Presidency stated that Erdoğan discussed the latest developments in Iran during the call.
He emphasized that resolving crises through dialogue and without further escalation would have a positive impact not only on Iran itself,
but also on the security and stability of the entire region, including Turkey.
Ankara is watching
The statement added that the Turkish President stressed the importance of preserving Iran’s unity and sovereignty and rejected any external attempts to destabilize it.
He noted that Ankara is closely monitoring the ongoing developments and calls for political solutions
aimed at reducing tensions and preventing a slide into wider confrontations.
This contact comes amid a wave of unrest in Iran, some of the most violent since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
This comes amid growing regional and international concern about its political and security repercussions.
In this context, Ankara believes that continued escalation could negatively impact the stability of neighboring countries.
It could also further complicate the situation in the Middle East.
According to the statement, Erdoğan emphasized that resolving existing problems peacefully
and through internal dialogue would contribute to strengthening regional security.
De-escalation and dialogue
He noted that Turkey prefers a policy of de-escalation and dialogue, and rejects policies of pressure or external intervention that could exacerbate crises.
For its part, the Iranian side did not immediately comment on the details of the call.
However, the call reflects the continued political communication channels between Ankara and Tehran during this sensitive period for the region.
The Turkish position is seen as an extension of Ankara’s policy advocating respect for the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.
At the same time, it stresses that stability in Iran is a fundamental element of regional security,
at a time when regional and international challenges surrounding the Iranian issue are increasing.
