Washington, DC – US envoy Steve Wittkopf announced a broad international response to President Donald Trump’s initiative to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip. He also confirmed that approximately 25 world leaders have accepted the invitation to join the so-called “Peace Council.” In remarks to CNBC on Wednesday, Wittkopf noted the accelerating pace of international coordination. He said, “We have between 20 and 25 world leaders who have already accepted to join the Peace Council,” the body envisioned as the political and security framework for implementing the comprehensive peace plan.
For its part, the Arab Republic of Egypt officially welcomed President Trump’s invitation to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to join the council. The formation of the “Peace Council” is an implementation step of President Trump’s proposals, which aim to reduce regional tensions and build a new security architecture in the region. This comes amid international optimism that this initiative can break the current political deadlock.
