Cairo, Egypt – The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in an official statement issued today, Saturday, that the Arab Republic of Egypt is following with great concern the recent and rapidly evolving developments in Yemen. Cairo expressed its deep concern about the risks of potential escalation and its direct repercussions on the security and stability of brotherly Yemen. It also noted the potential security ramifications that could affect the entire region.

Highlights
  • Supporting national principles and sovereignty
  • A call for calm and dialogue
  • Diplomatic moves towards a settlement

Supporting national principles and sovereignty

In its statement, Egypt reiterated its firm strategic position on the crisis, emphasizing its full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Yemen. It stressed the need to preserve national state institutions and safeguard the resources of the brotherly Yemeni people.

It was also emphasized that providing comprehensive solutions that address the root causes of the crisis is the only way to end the ongoing conflict, and to work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the Yemeni people in the areas of security, stability, and sustainable development.

A call for calm and dialogue

In its statement, Egypt stressed the need to prioritize dialogue and reason as an alternative to confrontation.

It also called for an immediate de-escalation and restraint. Egypt emphasized the importance of avoiding any unilateral actions that could threaten security and stability. Furthermore, it urged concerted efforts to reduce tensions.

Diplomatic moves towards a settlement

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed Egypt’s continued efforts to push for a comprehensive and sustainable political settlement to the Yemeni crisis. The statement clarified that Egypt’s approach relies on ongoing coordination with all parties involved in the crisis. It also encourages an inclusive Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue that encompasses all segments of the Yemeni people within a framework of consensus.

Adherence to Yemeni national principles in a way that protects Arab national security, and working to strengthen the unity of the regional position to consolidate security in the region.
