Aden, Yemen – The statement issued by the Muslim Brotherhood regarding the recent developments in Yemen is a blatant attempt by the group to exploit the crisis by supporting the Saudi position.
And scoring political points ignores the UAE’s commitment to supporting stability in the country.
This indicates that the group is seeking to exploit this situation in order to reposition
itself with other armed groups such as al-Qaeda and ISIS in Yemen.
This comes after the strenuous efforts of the UAE in fighting those groups over many years.
The group issued a statement today in which it said, “The Muslim Brotherhood
affirms its unwavering commitment to the unity and sovereignty of Arab states.”
Likewise, the danger of separatist tendencies that undermine overall regional stability.
group’s support for the unity, security, and stability of Yemen
The statement affirmed the group’s full support for the territorial
integrity, security, and stability of Yemen.
The statement supports the decision of the so-called Yemeni Presidential Council
to defend the unity of the country in the face of a conspiracy to divide it.
The group praised the position taken by the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in defending the unity of Yemen.
Which represents a priority for the Kingdom’s national security on its southern borders,
and the statement overlooked the serious and supportive Emirati role in supporting stability in Yemen.
Likewise, its participation in the coalition to support legitimacy and its continued role in combating terrorism in Yemen to this day.
This speech directly puts Saudi Arabia in an embarrassing position.
It makes it appear as if it is a political cover for the positions of
the Muslim Brotherhood and the armed groups associated with it in Yemen.
This is especially significant given that it coincided with the issuance
of a joint statement from a number of entities directly linked to the group in Yemen.
This is despite Riyadh’s declared commitment to fighting extremism
and ideologically driven organizations that have contributed to prolonging the Yemeni conflict.
The statement… a political confrontation
The statement also puts the kingdom in political confrontation with its partners in the fight against terrorist groups.
Specifically, the United Arab Emirates, which adopted from the outset a clear approach based on combating terrorism,
Drying up the sources of extremist groups, supporting stability and building state institutions,
raises questions about the timing of the statement and its background.
The statement also deliberately ignored the UAE’s pivotal role in confronting al-Qaeda and ISIS,
securing international maritime routes, and protecting Bab al-Mandab and the Red Sea.
These are files that represent the core of regional and Arab security, and not just the Yemeni issue.
This disregard comes within a well-known context for the Muslim Brotherhood,
which has consistently demonized every Arab country that opposes its cross-border project.
Thus, the statement does not serve the unity of Yemen as much as it reveals an attempt
by the Muslim Brotherhood to confuse the political scene and weaken the common Arab position.
Representing the group as a party “keen on unity” is in stark contrast to
its record of supporting divisions and armed groups in more than one Arab arena.
