Belgrade, Serbia – Serbia announced its “firm” support for any efforts aimed at reaching a political settlement to the conflict in Ukraine. It affirmed its support for the plan proposed by US President Donald Trump, considering it a framework that could contribute to ending the war and containing its regional and international repercussions.
Serbian officials said Belgrade believes that political initiatives, however controversial, remain the most realistic option compared to continued military operations. They emphasized that Trump’s plan opens the door to discussions about a ceasefire and a return to the negotiating table.
The statement added that Serbia, which pursues a balanced policy in its international relations, supports peaceful solutions based on dialogue and respect for international law. It rejects prolonging the conflict due to its serious humanitarian and economic consequences for the region and Europe as a whole.
Belgrade indicated that any lasting settlement in Ukraine must take into account the security concerns of all parties. It must also be based on understandings that guarantee stability and prevent the outbreak of new crises in the future. Belgrade affirmed its readiness to support diplomatic efforts in this direction.
The Serbian position comes at a time when international calls are intensifying for a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis, amid differing positions among major powers on how to end the war and the conditions for a possible settlement.
