Kyiv, Ukraine – U.S. Special Envoy to Ukraine, Steve Witkoff, announced Sunday that peace talks held in the German capital had yielded tangible progress. These steps aim to de-escalate the conflict that has persisted since the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war in February 2012.
Witkov stated that the meetings focused on defining ceasefire mechanisms and finding solutions to ensure security and stability. He noted that there was “tangible progress” that could be built upon in future rounds. He added that the meetings also addressed a range of economic and security measures that could support Ukraine in the post-war period.
The talks included senior US and Ukrainian officials, while Russia has not issued any official statements regarding the proposed plan. This leaves some key points still under intense diplomatic discussion.
For its part, the Ukrainian side stressed the need to preserve sovereignty and national unity, noting that any agreement must include the protection of the fundamental rights of the Ukrainian people. It also emphasized the need to provide economic and military security for the affected regions.
International experts have confirmed that the talks in Berlin could represent a strategic turning point, as they come at a critical juncture in the conflict. They also open the door to a greater role for the European Union and the United Nations in monitoring the implementation of any future agreement.
The international media is closely following the sessions, believing that any progress in these negotiations could reduce regional tensions and contribute to the stability of global markets, which have been negatively impacted by the ongoing conflict.
