Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that any security guarantees offered by the United States to Ukraine must be approved by the US Congress to ensure their legal strength and continuity.
Zelensky said that Ukraine is seeking clear and binding commitments from Washington to support its security in the face of Russian threats, noting that relying solely on executive decisions does not provide sufficient long-term protection.
He noted that congressional approval is a crucial element for solidifying any security agreement and ensuring that it does not change with changes in US administrations, stressing the importance of stable and strong partnerships to protect Ukraine’s sovereignty.
He added that Kyiv continues to coordinate with the US administration and members of Congress from both parties to pass a legal formulation that guarantees sustained support in the military and security fields.
