Washington, DC – Dr. Walid Phares, an American terrorism expert and former advisor to US President Donald Trump, praised the recent victories achieved by southern forces in Yemen. He described them as a crucial step in combating terrorism and restoring the region’s “great past.”
Fares commented in a tweet on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter) that the Southern Armed Forces had succeeded in expelling al-Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood elements from the Hadramawt and al-Mahra governorates. He affirmed that this achievement constitutes “a historic victory over the jihadists.” He also considered it an important step towards strengthening security and stability in the south.
A call for the United States to support the Southern Transitional Council
Fares explained that the masses in southern Yemen are currently celebrating “the reunification of southern Yemen. The most secular, progressive, and anti-jihadist society in the Arab world.”
In the context of military developments, the American expert asserted that defeating the jihadist and Muslim Brotherhood militias in Hadramawt and Al-Mahra will soon lead to a redrawing of the border with the Sultanate of Oman. It will also sever the Houthis’ supply lines.
Fares explicitly called on the United States, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia to seek the support of the Southern Transitional Council to help defeat the Houthi militias and end the war in Yemen. “The United States, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia should ask the Southern Transitional Council to help them defeat the Houthis and end the war. If [the US president] wants to, he can sponsor an end to the war and the elimination of the Iranian-backed militias in Yemen.”
Fares pointed out that international support for the Southern Transitional Council is a crucial factor in securing the South, protecting shipping lanes, and ensuring regional stability.
