Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump stated that the Ukrainian people have the right to elect their president. In an interview with Politico, he asserted that the time has come for these elections to take place.
Trump said in a decisive tone: “Things are not going well… They are using the war to avoid the vote, but I believe the Ukrainian people should have that choice.”
This call comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s term officially ended on May 20. Although the presidential elections scheduled for March 31, 2024, were canceled due to martial law and general mobilization, Kyiv maintains that Zelensky remains legitimate until a new president is elected.
