Abu Dhabi, UAE – Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, for Abu Dhabi’s support in the arrest of the suspect in the attempted assassination of a high-ranking Russian officer in Moscow. This came during a telephone call between Putin and the UAE President on Saturday evening, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Peskov told reporters, “President Putin thanked Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed for the effective cooperation through the special services and for the UAE’s assistance in detaining one of the suspects in the terrorist attack targeting General Vladimir Alexeyev.”
The spokesman added that the two leaders also discussed topics that were on the agenda for bin Zayed’s recent visit to Moscow. Earlier, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the arrest of Russian citizen Lyubomir Korba (born 1960), believed to be the direct perpetrator of the attempted assassination of the deputy head of Russian military intelligence, after he was shot in Moscow on Thursday. The FSB confirmed that the arrest was made “with the assistance of partners from the UAE” in Dubai, and the suspect was extradited to Russia. This operation is part of Moscow’s efforts to tighten security measures around its military officials and demonstrate international cooperation in combating terrorism.
