Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Clashes between the armies of Thailand and Cambodia across the border resumed on Saturday.

This came after the two countries agreed to a ceasefire last July.

Royal Thai Army spokesman Winthai Suvari said: “At noon on September 27, the army received reports from the Second Army area. The reports stated that Cambodian soldiers opened fire with small arms and grenade launchers towards Thai positions in Ubon Ratchathani Province”.

He said the Soranari Task Force had been placed on high alert and ordered to respond proportionately to the situation.

The military spokesman added, “At the present time, there are no reports of injuries or deaths among Thai forces. Any further developments will be reported immediately”.

In contrast, the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense accused Thai forces of launching cross-border attacks. These occurred on Cambodian military sites on Saturday morning.

Which led to an escalation of tensions along the border.

According to a statement issued by Under-Secretary of State and Ministry spokesman Mali Suchiata, Thai soldiers opened fire using mortars and rifles. They targeted Cambodian forces stationed near the border.

“Cambodian forces were extremely patient and did not return fire,” the statement said.

“As of the time of its release, the attacks have not stopped,” the statement added.

The Ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to fully respect and implement the ceasefire agreement between the two countries.

She affirmed her determination to work closely with Thailand at all levels to restore peace and stability.
