Abu Dhabi, UAE – The United Arab Emirates affirmed its full and unwavering solidarity with the sisterly State of Kuwait in all measures it takes to protect its legitimate rights and interests. It also reiterated its support for Kuwait in the face of any infringement upon its sovereignty or national interests.
Concern over coordinates deposited with the United Nations
The UAE expressed its deep concern and condemnation of the coordinates and map submitted by the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations. This could infringe upon or affect the rights of the State of Kuwait in its territorial waters, including the areas of Fasht al-Qaid and Fasht al-Aij. The UAE emphasized the importance of respecting Kuwait’s sovereign rights in accordance with internationally recognized legal frameworks.
A call to respect fraternal relations
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the need for the Republic of Iraq to consider the fraternal and historical ties that bind the two countries and their brotherly peoples. It also emphasized the importance of addressing this issue with a sense of responsibility and seriousness, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening regional stability and upholding the principles of good neighborliness.
Commitment to international law and diplomatic dialogue
The statement emphasized the importance of adhering to the rules and principles of international law, the provisions of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and the bilateral understandings, agreements, and memoranda of understanding concluded between the two countries. The Ministry also called for addressing any related issues through constructive dialogue and diplomatic channels. This contributes to strengthening security and stability in the region and avoids any unnecessary tensions.
This position is in line with the UAE’s steadfast policy of supporting respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. The UAE also rejects any measures that could harm the security of brotherly nations or infringe upon their legitimate rights.
