New Delhi, India – The death toll from devastating floods in India’s northeastern state of Assam reached 95, with more than 200,000 people severely affected. Consequently, these casualties stem from continuous heavy monsoon downpours impacting the region.

Furthermore, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority reported the collapse of seven dams across the Biswanath and Darrang districts. As a result, critical bridges in Charaideo and Udalguri sustained severe damage, halting transportation and basic services.

Agricultural Impact and Weather Warnings

On the other hand, floodwaters submerged nearly 17,000 hectares of farmland and caused the death of roughly 8,500 livestock. Meanwhile, emergency rescue teams are actively delivering essential relief supplies and relocating over 12,000 individuals to temporary shelters.

Additionally, the India Meteorological Department warned of impending heavy rainfall that could exacerbate river basin levels in the coming days. Consequently, regional authorities remain on high alert during the annual South Asian monsoon season.

Finally, the catastrophic flooding underscores the severe climate vulnerabilities facing South Asian nations each year between June and September. Ultimately, immediate efforts remain focused on safeguarding human lives and restoring damaged critical infrastructure.
