Moscow, Russia – Russian officials announced on Saturday that seven civilians were killed and several others injured in an attack by a Ukrainian drone targeting a populated area in the Tambov region of central Russia, marking the latest escalation in tit-for-tat attacks between Moscow and Kyiv.
The acting governor of the Tambov region stated that the drone targeted a populated area, resulting in casualties and damage to several buildings and facilities. Emergency and civil defense teams rushed to the scene to evacuate the injured and secure the area.
The official added that security services have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the attack, while emergency teams continue to clear the debris and assess the extent of damage to public and private property.
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that its air defense systems continue to intercept drone attacks targeting areas within Russian territory. The ministry also noted a significant escalation in Ukrainian attacks recently.
The attack comes as military operations between Russia and Ukraine continue, with both sides exchanging airstrikes and drone attacks across the border. Amid this, warnings are growing about the potential for wider clashes and the continued targeting of infrastructure and civilian areas.
