Pyongyang, North Korea – North Korea has asserted that its status as a nuclear-armed state is “irreversible,” emphasizing that its nuclear capabilities are a fundamental part of its defense strategy and national security. This stance reflects its continued adherence to its nuclear deterrent policy despite international pressure and sanctions.
North Korean authorities explained that possessing nuclear weapons is a strategic choice linked to protecting the country’s sovereignty and countering what they describe as external threats. They also affirmed that any attempts to force Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear program will fail.
These statements come at a time of renewed tensions on the Korean Peninsula, amid ongoing joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea. Pyongyang considers these exercises a direct threat to its security and stability.
Observers believe that North Korea’s insistence on maintaining its nuclear status sends a clear message to the international community that the denuclearization process remains far from any tangible progress. This further complicates diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region.
The United Nations and several international powers continue to call for a resumption of dialogue and negotiations to mitigate security risks in Northeast Asia. However, the divergent positions of the parties involved continue to hinder a comprehensive settlement of the North Korean nuclear issue.
