Beirut, Lebanon – Israeli warplanes launched a series of airstrikes targeting several towns in southern Lebanon. This marks a new development on the ground despite the ceasefire agreement between the two sides.
Sporadic raids and combing operations
Lebanese sources reported that the airstrikes targeted several areas in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli army also conducted search operations inside the city of Bint Jbeil.
These operations included shelling from Merkava tanks toward homes in the city.
Additionally, a drone targeted the town of Qlaileh, killing one person,
according to the Lebanese National News Agency.
Violations despite the truce
These developments come despite US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ten-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.
The ceasefire, which began on April 16, was intended to contain the escalation.
he truce followed a wave of intense Israeli airstrikes that began on March 2.
These strikes resulted in significant human and material losses.
Ceasefire extended amid tension
On April 23, the United States announced a three-week extension of the ceasefire.
However, recent airstrikes reflect the fragility of the truce and the continued tension on the ground.
These developments raise concerns about a renewed military escalation,
especially given the stalled diplomatic efforts.
Efforts to establish a lasting ceasefire between the two sides remain hampered.
