Tehran, Iran – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday strongly criticized the international community’s stance on the military escalation and naval blockade imposed on his country, describing the silence of human rights organizations regarding what he called “the enemy’s crimes” as a position lacking moral and political credibility. Pezeshkian asserted that this international inaction exposes the double standards when it comes to the rights of the Iranian people and the sovereignty of their nation.
The adversaries’ inability to defeat them and the targeting of infrastructure.
In a speech addressing recent developments on the ground, Pezeshkian stated that the “enemy’s” threats to target vital Iranian facilities and infrastructure are not a sign of strength, but rather a direct reflection of their inability to impose their political will on Tehran through diplomatic channels or direct confrontations.
He emphasized that any harm to the national resources of the Iranian people will be met with a firm response, noting that his country has prepared for all scenarios to protect its oil and service facilities, which are essential to the daily lives of its citizens.
Defending rights without ulterior motives
The Iranian president reiterated his country’s foreign policy principles, clarifying that Iran “does not covet the rights of other nations” nor seeks to expand the scope of conflict. However, he emphasized that Iran “will resolutely defend the rights of its people” against any external threats or pressures aimed at subjugating it economically or militarily.
These statements come at a sensitive time, marked by increasing international pressure due to the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the escalating pace of US-Israeli military operations.
A message for those inside and outside the country
Observers believe that Pezeshkian’s speech aimed to mobilize the Iranian public amidst difficult living conditions exacerbated by environmental pollution in areas like Ahvaz and the pressures of the naval blockade.
He also sent a clear message to international powers that continuing the policy of “coercive control” will only lead to a hardening of the Iranian position, holding international institutions historically responsible for any collapse of regional security and peace resulting from their silence regarding the “violations” to which Iran is subjected.
