Beirut, Lebanon – On the occasion of Easter for the Christian denominations that follow the Eastern calendar, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam addressed the Lebanese people. In his message, he called for adherence to national unity as the only way to confront the grave challenges facing the country.
In a post on the “X” platform, Salam offered his congratulations, saying: “Happy Easter to Christians who follow the Eastern calendar. I sincerely hope that this holiday will inspire all Lebanese to uphold our unity and avoid discord.” Salam also emphasized in his message the necessity of “prioritizing reason and the national interest.” He asserted that returning to logic and dialogue is the key to overcoming the existential threats facing Lebanon at present, including security and political risks.
Salam’s call for peace comes at a sensitive time, as Lebanon grapples with mounting regional pressures and ongoing economic collapse. He emphasized his hope that “stability, peace, and prosperity will prevail throughout Lebanon.” He concluded his message by wishing the Lebanese people a happy new year. Observers believe Salam’s conciliatory tone aims to ease internal tensions and prevent the country from sliding into peripheral conflicts. This comes amidst continued Israeli attacks on the south and a severe economic crisis that is burdening citizens. Salam stressed that the supreme national interest must take precedence over all partisan considerations.
